A credit union is a financial institution that is charted as a non-profit co-operative to provide financial services to it's members. MEMBERS, that's the key...in a credit union its members are its owners. There are no stockholders. This means the profits are used to benefit it's membership with higher savings rates, lower loan rates, and other financial services at reduced fees, and in many cases no fees. Each member is entitled to one vote that they cast to elect a Board of Directors, who serve without pay, and is responsible for the policies and performance of the credit union.
